    Alan King's note
Here as elsewhere the translators produce nonsensical renderings of original glosses which cite Spanish words, indicating against all evidence that the word "comes from Spanish". This case may serve as an example. Schultze glosses tutumuch as follows: "die Hüllblätter des Maiskolbens, span. mortaja", which has been "translated" as follows: "tuzas, mortaja (del Español)". The best explanation for such erratic renderings is to accept that the translators didn't really have a clue what they were translating.
