- Alan King's note
- The form in Schultze is yujyulu-, and it occurs in two adjacent sentences (45): "Se imey wan nawi ijpak tunal kipiat tik ne shaput. Inte kimakat tal ashta tami kiyujyulumakat ne katayua wan ne tunal, pal naka paki ne mikini kita ka kitasujtat ne imiaka. Kan ne tami kiyujyulumakat, kwakuni kimakat tal." Sch glosses this: "sein Herz geben, Liebe erzeigen". With yujyul- rather than yujyulu-, this verb also occurs once in IRIN Interview 5 although the speaker, Luís Hernández, repeats the word: "Con eso yujyulmaka ne siwat, yujyulmaka ne siwat: Ken ka nemi nushulejyu?" which I have translated as: "Con eso la mujer se pregunta: ¿Cómo es que mi marido está acá?" The context certainly doesn't justify the meaning suggested by Schultze, rather one may infer an act of reflection; while in the Masin corpus context also, some sort of cognitive act can be guessed at but certainly not "love". Schultze's "sein Herz geben" is in fact a literal (morpheme-by-morpheme) rendering of (yuj)yul(u)-maka and it is my conjecture that he didn't know the meaning and that one should not set too much store by his gloss.
