- This entry conflates several things that really need to be distinguished. There is an inalienable noun -ten, and there is a relational -ten. The noun primarily signifies 'mouth' but can also denote an opening or edge. As a relational, iten means 'at the edge', 'by', 'outside'. Ten can also be compounded with nouns and verbs, again with different meanings: either the anatomical, as in tenhayu, tentzun, tennakayu, mutenpelua, -tennamiki etc., or the relational as in tenhat, tenkal, -tentapua, -tentzakwa, tentzakka etc. -Tenpan (qv.) may be considered an extended variant of the relational -ten.
